GPs are concerned about the increasing number of cases of malnutrition they are treating in their surgeries.

There is a crisis facing impoverished mothers and their babies in the UK whose already inadequate benefit incomes in work and unemployment are being reduced to a level at which a healthy diet cannot be purchased before or during pregnancy. It should not be necessary to remind UK governments that three days food from a food bank does not cover a nine month pregnancy.

On the 25th December many people will be celebrating the birth of a healthy baby some 2000 years ago. Healthy babies are born to mothers who have a healthy diet both before conception and during pregnancy.
